Remittances, the Macroeconomy, and Public Policy Conference - February 21-22, 2008

Call for Papers

The Americas Center at the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta will hold a research conference on "Remittances, the Macroconomy, and Public Policy" on Thursday, February 21, and Friday, February 22, 2008. The conference is intended to provide a forum for discussing innovative research on remittances and to facilitate the exchange of views among researchers and policymakers. Possible topics include (but are not restricted to) volatility of remittances and their impact on investment and growth, remittances and real exchange rate misalignment, remittances and financial sector development, remittances and fiscal and monetary policy, remittances and public policy complementarities, regulatory framework for remittances, and remittances, poverty, and inequality.

Those interested in participating in the conference should submit a draft paper or a two-page proposal to the program committee. Please submit your proposals by October 15, 2007, via e-mail to federico.mandelman@atl.frb.org. Please use the contact author's name as the name of the file.

All proposals should include the title of the paper, author affiliation and contact information, the main questions to be examined, the most relevant literature, the intended contribution of the paper to the literature, possible data sets, and the methods to be employed. If possible, please attach a work-in-progress draft to the proposal. Authors should also provide a copy of their curriculum vitae. All presenters will be reimbursed for travel expenses and hotel accommodations in Atlanta.

The Program Committee will evaluate all proposals in terms of originality, analytical rigor, and policy relevance and by October 24, 2007, will contact the authors whose papers have been selected. A 15-page work-in-progress draft will be required by January 10, 2008. Further information on the conference program will be posted on the Americas Center Web site at www.frbatlanta.org.
