New conferences focus on consumer issues, community reinvestment

The Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta is cosponsoring two conferences that will explore topics vital to communities and citizens nationwide.

The Atlanta Fed will join five other agencies, including the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco, in presenting the 2010 National Interagency Community Reinvestment Conference in New Orleans March 14–18.

The conference will cover Community Reinvestment Act compliance, community development, investments, and the National Community Development Lending School (NCDLS). These four tracks will be complemented by plenary speakers, tours of local revitalization projects, and networking opportunities. Attendees can also volunteer in rebuilding projects and attend a new one-day conference with advanced sessions on community development investments. Visit the conference Web site for information and registration.

Consumer advocates, scholars, and other experts will gather at the Atlanta Fed headquarters April 14–16 for the 2010 conference of the American Council on Consumer Interests (ACCI). The conference will examine the financial and foreclosure crisis through the lens of behavioral economics and explore other critical consumer issues, including healthcare reform and housing policy. Speakers will include Ed Mierzwinski, director of the Consumer Program for the Federation of State Public Interest Research Groups (U.S. PIRGs).

Online conference registration runs until April 2 on the ACCI Web site. An opening reception and a pre-conference program for emerging scholars will be held on April 14, with conference sessions from 8 a.m. on April 15 through 5 p.m. April 16. For the most up-to-date conference information, visit the ACCI Web site. For other information, you may contact Karen Leone de Nie of the Atlanta Fed at karen.leonedenie@frb.atl.org or 404.498.7237.
