The Ecosystem of Community Development in the Southeast: A View from the Fed

At the 10th annual Purpose Built Communities Conference, Atlanta Fed president Raphael Bostic and Egbert Perry, chairman of the Integral Group, discussed the ecosystem of community development organizations, considering the unique assets and opportunities of each: conference attendees, community developers, housing developers, educators, Fannie Mae, and the Federal Reserve System. Bostic and Egbert urged attendees to collectively help communities develop.

Fed Listens: A Community Listening Session in Augusta, Georgia - July 16, 2019

Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta president Raphael Bostic and Federal Reserve governor Michelle Bowman moderated two panels comprised of Augusta business and community leaders to learn about how the economy is working for them and their constituencies in Augusta. This listening session was the Atlanta Fed’s installment in the Fed Listens series being held across the country as part of the Federal Reserve's review of monetary policy practices, and you can read a summary of the discussions. While in Augusta, Bostic and Bowman toured downtown Augusta to see the historical sites as well as numerous revitalization efforts under way. The day ended with a tour of the Reaching Potential Through Manufacturing school (RPM) and Textron Specialized Vehicles.

Employment, the Workforce, and Work Transformation

President Bostic and former Atlanta Fed president Dennis Lockhart recently conversed on such topics as the future of central banking, economic inequality, sustainable investment, global governance, and the role of technology in employment and education. They spoke at the Official Monetary and Financial Institutions Forum (OMFIF) Foundation's international gathering at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri. The National Institute of Economic and Social Research, the OMFIF Foundation, the Centre For Macroeconomics, the Federal Reserve Bank of St Louis, and the Olin School of Business cohosted the event.

Panel Discussion about the State of the Nation's Housing

President Bostic spoke on a panel at the release event for Harvard University's Joint Center for Housing Studies 2019 State of the Nation's Housing report. Other panelists were Chris Herbert, managing director of the Harvard Joint Center for Housing Studies; Jonathan Reckford, CEO of Habitat for Humanity; and Carol Tomé, chief financial officer for Home Depot. Moderating the panel was Amy Scott, Marketplace's senior correspondent covering housing.
