Bank data are taken from the quarterly Reports of Condition and Income (Call Reports) filed with the federal bank regulatory agencies by federally insured commercial banks. Data include domestic operations only. Total loans and leases are net of unearned income. For a description of methodologies see Lynn W. Woosley and James D. Baer, "Commercial Bank Profits in 1994," Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta, Economic Review 80 (May/June 1995): 11-31.

Data for Louisiana, Mississippi, and Tennessee cover the entire state, not just the Sixth District portion of the state.

a Effective as of the close of business on Dec. 30, 1995, NationsBank of Florida, N.A., Madison, Fla., merged into NationsBank, N.A. (South), Atlanta, Ga. As a result of the merger, the data reported on the Reports of Condition for fourth quarter 1995 for the Florida bank have all been reported for the state of Georgia.
