Atlanta Fed Gets Into the Act With Reynoldstown's Wheelbarrow Summer Theater
The Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta has joined forces with the in-town community of Reynoldstown to assist with its 1997 Wheelbarrow Summer Theater.
The Atlanta Fed has adopted the theater as one of its 1997 volunteer projects. More than 125 Bank employees have volunteered their time to help put together the stage for the theater, work in the concession booths and serve as ushers and ticket sellers during the events.
The two-week-long theater, which is being held on the grounds of the Lang Carson Community Center at 100 Flat Shoals Ave., serves as a fund-raising event for the Reynoldstown Revitalization Corporation. The theater also serves as a cultural and nontraditional educational experience for residents of the community.
Performances on June 5-7 will feature gospel groups and choirs, as well as nationally known gospel recording artist Dottie Peoples, an Atlanta native. June 12-14 performances will feature the play "Dancing on a Tight Rope," written and directed by Sherry Williams, chairperson of the Wheelbarrow Summer Theater.
The Reynoldstown community is located in southeast Atlanta, 2 1/2 miles from downtown. It is surrounded by Cabbagetown, Inman Park, Grant Park, East Atlanta and Ormewood. The Revitalization Corporation is working to provide affordable housing, rehabilitate existing housing and aid new and existing businesses in the community.
