John W. Garratt, executive vice president and chief financial officer of Dollar General Corporation, has been appointed to the board of directors of the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta's Nashville Branch. Garratt's term began June 7, 2018, and runs through December 31, 2020. He is filling an unexpired term.

Garratt has served in his current position at Dollar General since 2015. From 2014 to 2015, he served as senior vice president of finance and strategy for Dollar General Corporation. Before joining Dollar General, Garratt was vice president of finance for Yum! Brands from 2013 to 2014. At Yum! Brands, he also served as senior director of corporate strategy from 2010 to 2013 and senior director of financial planning from 2008 to 2011. Prior to joining Yum! Brands, Garratt held various positions of increasing responsibility at Alcoa and General Electric.

Garratt is a board member of the Nashville Area Chapter of the American Red Cross. He has an MBA from Carnegie Mellon University and a bachelor's degree from Indiana University.

Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta branch directors provide economic information from the branch territory to the Reserve Bank president and head office directors, who use the information in monetary policy deliberations and making discount rate recommendations. Garratt was appointed to the board of directors of the Nashville Branch by the Atlanta Fed's board of directors. The Board of Governors in Washington DC appoints three of the Nashville Branch directors, and the Atlanta head office directors appoint four.
