Fennell and Stovall Appointed to the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta's Jacksonville Branch Board of Directors

Carolyn M. Fennell, director of public affairs of the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority at the Orlando International Airport, and David H. Stovall Jr., president and chief executive officer of Stein Mart Inc., were appointed to the board of directors of the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta's Jacksonville Branch. Their terms began Jan. 1, 2011, and run through Dec. 31, 2013.
Fennell has held executive positions in marketing and communications with the Aviation Authority since 1980. Prior to joining the Authority, she worked as a publicist at Walt Disney World in Orlando and served as production assistant to Peter Jennings for ABC News in London, England.
Fennell is a member of the executive committee and board of directors of the Orlando/Orange County Convention & Visitors Bureau and is on the board of trustees of the Orlando Museum of Art. She is former chair and member of the Marketing Communications Committee of Airports Council International and chair of the Board of Visitors of the School of Journalism and Graphic Communication for Florida A&M University. She is a former chair of the Metropolitan Orlando Urban League and previously served on the board of the Greater Orlando Chamber of Commerce.
Fennell received a bachelor's degree from Florida A&M University. In 2010 she was recognized as Businesswoman of the Year and Business Executive of the Year by the Orlando Business Journal. She received the Delta Xi Lambda Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity's Drum Major Award for Civic Affairs in 1997, and in 1995 she received the Public Relations Professional of the Year Award from the Florida Public Relations Association. She was named by Orlando Magazine as one of Fifteen Women Defining Power in Central Florida.
Stovall has extensive retail experience and has served as president and chief executive officer of Stein Mart Inc. since 2008. In 1986 he joined Belk Inc., where he held several leadership positions including chairman, Central Division, Charlotte, N.C., 2000 –08; chairman, Northern Division, Raleigh, N.C., 1999–2000 and president, Belk of Virginia, Richmond, Va., 1996–99. Prior to joining Belk, he worked in retail in the Washington, D.C., area with Woodward and Lothrop and Bloomingdale's.
Stovall serves on the board of the Baptist Health Inc. of Jacksonville and the Jacksonville Chamber of Commerce, and is on the board of advisers of the Williams School of Commerce, Economics and Politics at Washington and Lee University. While in Charlotte, N.C., he served as chair of the Charlotte Chamber of Commerce and the Charlotte Regional Partnership and as trustee of Central Piedmont Community College.
Stovall received a bachelor's degree in business administration from Washington and Lee University in 1969 and an MBA from the University of Virginia's Darden Business School in 1971. He received the Distinguished Alumnus Award from Washington and Lee University in 2009 and the Schley Lyons Circle of Excellence Award from Leadership Charlotte in 1995.
Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta branch directors provide economic information from their industries and the branch territory to the district bank's president and head office directors, who use the information in formulating monetary policy and making discount rate recommendations. Stovall was appointed to the board of directors of the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta's Jacksonville Branch by the Federal Reserve Board of Governors in Washington, D.C. Fennell was appointed by the Atlanta Fed's board of directors. The Board of Governors appoints three of the directors of the Jacksonville Branch, and the Atlanta head office directors appoint four.
