Lyons Appointed to the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta's Birmingham Branch Board of Directors

James Lyons, director and chief executive officer of the Alabama State Port Authority since 1999, has been appointed to the board of directors of the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta's Birmingham Branch. His term, which fills an unexpired term, began April 21, 2011, and will run through Dec. 31, 2012.
Before Lyons joined the Alabama State Port Authority, he was owner of Trinity Marine and Transportation Consulting, from 1996 to 1999. He also worked for 20 years with Ryan Walsh Inc., where he held various positions of increasing responsibility. He ended his tenure there as vice president of marketing.
Lyons is a member of Manufacture Alabama. He serves on the board of trustees of GulfQuest and as a member of the board of directors of the National Waterways Council. A Mobile native, Lyons earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Alabama.
Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta branch directors provide economic information from the branch territory to the district bank's president and head office directors, who use the information in formulating monetary policy and making discount rate recommendations. Lyons was appointed by the Atlanta Fed's board of directors. The Federal Reserve Board of Governors appoints three of the Birmingham Branch directors, and the Atlanta head office directors appoint four.
