Atlanta Fed Names Cunningham Regional Executive for Georgia

Tom Cunningham, vice president and associate director of research at the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta, has been named regional executive for the state of Georgia, announced Dennis Lockhart, Atlanta Fed president and chief executive officer.

As regional executive for Georgia, Cunningham will work closely with businesses, academic communities and other groups to enhance the Atlanta Fed's collection of grassroots economic information. The Bank uses this information to inform its contributions to national monetary policy. Cunningham will also serve as a member of the Bank's Center for Real Estate Analytics' executive committee.

Cunningham previously has been responsible for the research department's regional, Latin American and finance research teams, as well as the Bank's Center for Real Estate Analytics. He has served on the Bank's personnel, information technology and risk management committees, and as a member of the Federal Reserve System's Information Security Group and Technology Services Council. Cunningham joined the Bank as an economist with the macropolicy group in 1985, specializing in macroeconomics and monetary theory. He previously worked as an instructor of economics at Barnard College at Columbia University.

A native of Reedley, Calif., Cunningham received a bachelor's degree, summa cum laude, in economics from California State University, Fresno. He earned a master's degree, a master of philosophy and a doctorate of philosophy in economics from Columbia University. He has attended the Executive Development Program at Wharton.

The Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta serves the Sixth Federal Reserve District, which encompasses Alabama, Florida and Georgia, and sections of Louisiana, Mississippi and Tennessee. As part of the nation's central banking system, the Atlanta Fed participates in setting national monetary policy, supervises numerous commercial banks and provides a variety of financial services to depository institutions and the U.S. government.
