State Government Finances - October 2009

September total tax revenues continued to decline for all states in the Sixth District. Total tax revenue fell 6.5 percent in Alabama, 9.7 percent in Florida, 14.0 percent in Georgia, 14.9 percent in Louisiana, 8.4 percent in Mississippi, and 5.4 percent in Tennessee (on a three-month moving average basis) from a year earlier.

The rate of tax collections in Alabama, Louisiana, and Mississippi dropped further in September compared with August; Florida and Tennessee saw improvements. Georgia's total tax revenue collections remained relatively flat in September.
