Richard A. Jones, Executive Vice President (Adviser)Richard A. Jones is executive vice president and general counsel at the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta. Before joining the Bank in October 2000, Jones was regional counsel for the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation's (FDIC) Atlanta region, which includes Alabama, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, and West Virginia. There, he oversaw the provision of legal services pertaining to the examination and supervision of state-chartered, FDIC-insured banks that are not members of the Federal Reserve System. Before he joined the FDIC, Jones was for five years a senior regional attorney at the Office of Thrift Supervision, where he played a lead role in numerous enforcement matters and acquisitions of troubled thrifts. He began his legal career as an attorney with the Federal Home Loan Bank Board in Washington, DC. After serving there for a year, Jones became a senior attorney with the Federal Home Loan Bank of Atlanta, where he served for five years.

Jones is a member of the State Bar of Georgia and former member of the Atlanta Bar Association, where he served on the Judicial Selection and Tenure Committee and chaired the Corporate Counsel Section. He is also a member and former chair of the executive committee of the State Bar of Georgia's Corporate Counsel Section and a former member of the Georgia State University College of Law’s Board of Visitors and both the operating board and board of the Commerce Club. Jones is a former member of the board of directors and executive committee of Families First Inc. and Safehouse Outreach Inc. He is the immediate past president of the George Washington University (GWU) Alumni Association and member of the GWU Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Council. He currently serves on the advisory board and the business and finance committee of the GWU Law School Center for Law, Economics, and Finance. He is a current member of the Partners for Home board of directors, a fellow with the American Bar Association, and fiduciary director of the State Bar of Georgia pension fund. Jones is a member of Leadership Atlanta, class of 2006.

Jones earned a bachelor's degree, with honors, from Morehouse College in Atlanta. He received his juris doctor degree from the George Washington University School of Law in Washington, DC, where he also served as president of the Black Law Students Association, and is a graduate of the Advanced Management Program at the Harvard University Business School.
