The Bank of England was an early central bank
Otherwise known as “the Old Lady of Threadneedle Street,” the Bank of England was one of the world’s first great chartered banks. It has been in business ever since it was established in 1694. Like the Federal Reserve, it is a central bank working with commericial banks.
